Ashley River Park is located near the beautiful scenic side of the Ashley River off of Bacon’s Bridge Road. The site features many amenities and recreation activities for visitors of all ages. The park is open from dawn to dusk daily. Ashley River Park features playgrounds, two picnic shelters, a splash pad, a fishing pond, riverside walking trail, kayak launch, event lawn, and dog parks for both small and large dogs. There is also an event pavilion on site available for full-day rentals. We are currently working on constructing an adventure course and rock climbing wall at this location

One of our most popular parks, located just off of I-20 is always hopping! The local neighborhoods enjoy a gym, kitchen, weight room, racquetball courts and classrooms. The baseball fields got a face-lift this year with the addition of a new concession stand with a media box. All of the fields have lights and Meadowlake Park is the only recreation center that has a full walking track with lights. The two tennis courts have been resurfaced and the nearby playground and picnic shelter is perfect for family get togethers.

Opened in time for the 1997 season, Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park remains one of the premier atmospheres in Minor League Baseball. Named after the city’s longest-serving mayor, “The Joe” is the home of the RiverDogs and The Citadel baseball team.

The facility is named after the long-time former mayor of Charleston, Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Mayor Riley, an avid baseball fan. He is one of the city’s great promoters of the game of baseball, and despite his objections, city council voted unanimously to name the facility in his honor.

The facility is unique in several ways. Its uniqueness stems from the relationships fostered by the City of Charleston, the state of South Carolina (The Citadel) and a private enterprise (RiverDogs).

Riley Park was designed by Populous of Kansas City, MO., known primarily for their work at Oriole Park at Camden Yards (Baltimore), Jacobs Field (Cleveland) and Coors Field (Denver), among many others.

With the addition of the Riley Park Club–now known as the Segra Club– in 2017, the ballpark got its first major addition since the stadium was built.

This lovely park is well hidden in a pleasant neighborhood full of well-maintained older homes. It is a peaceful park that has been beautifully landscaped. It is enclosed by a metal and stone fence and landscape bushes. There are restrooms in the neighborhood center and water fountains are available. The community center offers access to computers with Internet access. The center is open from 2-6:00 p.m. weekdays.

Perrin-Thomas Park Community Center

Located just northeast of the Columbia State Fairgrounds and formerly known as the Perrin-Thomas Elementary School, this new community center features a lobby, meeting rooms, and restrooms.

This center is available Saturday and Sunday for rentals only.

The 2018 Melvin Park Splash season will officially begin on Saturday, April 28, 2018.

Hours of operation are 9:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. daily Monday Through Saturday, and 11:00 a.m. -8:00 p.m. on Sunday. Wristbands are $3/per person or $40/15 visit punch card. Call 803-345-8113 for more information.

The office located near the splash pad and the tennis courts is open year-round.

Ridgewood Community Center, located between Dartmouth Avenue and Woodbrier Street, is a new community center that features a kitchen, two meeting rooms, and restrooms. Outside, there is a picnic shelter, a playground, security lighting, outdoor restrooms, and a walking trail, approximately a quarter of a mile in length.

The walking trail, made of paved, recycled, rubberized material, allows for ADA accessibility and full participation of all our patrons. There are also four exercise stations placed strategically along the trail to allow for a full-body workout of 10 different, low-impact exercises. Enjoy the decorative lighting around the walking trail and relax on one of the four park benches located under the shade trees. Enjoy lunch at the picnic shelter and let the children play in the enclosed playground as you watch their every move while walking along the trail.

One of the nice things about downtown Summerville is the great selection of parks and recreation areas. Doty Park is not well known to people outside the Summerville area, but it really is a great place to visit. This nicely landscaped park has six tennis courts, a playground, several picnic shelters, and a gazebo. An old depot building now serves as a community center. A group of horseshoe pits here have been dug to an official distance with wooden backstops on each end. Several walking paths wind their way among these facilities as well. The Faith Sellers Senior Center is adjacent to this park.
