Ashley River Park is located near the beautiful scenic side of the Ashley River off of Bacon’s Bridge Road. The site features many amenities and recreation activities for visitors of all ages. The park is open from dawn to dusk daily. Ashley River Park features playgrounds, two picnic shelters, a splash pad, a fishing pond, riverside walking trail, kayak launch, event lawn, and dog parks for both small and large dogs. There is also an event pavilion on site available for full-day rentals. We are currently working on constructing an adventure course and rock climbing wall at this location

Our most popular park is the Cayce Riverwalk Park, featuring Timmerman Trail, which is part of the 3 Rivers Greenway. The Riverwalk stretches for nearly 8 miles along the river. It offers a scenic place to walk, run, picnic, and fish, with the added convenience of lighted pathways and 24 hour security. The Riverwalk Park is located at 201 Naples Ave.

The Cayce Riverwalk is the ultimate “daycation” spot, easily accessible from anywhere in the Midlands of South Carolina. Spanning 12 miles combined, it overlooks the beautiful Congaree River, right across from the capital city of Columbia, S.C., and it is a popular destination for walking, jogging, bicycling, bird-watching, picnicking and taking in the natural beauty of the riverfront.

Its bridges, boardwalks, overlooks and lighted, central path accommodate all levels of physical abilities. Residents and visitors enjoy free parking and lighted, paved paths through the shaded, riverine forest, studded with benches, picnic tables and public art by local artisans along with wide, wooden boardwalks with prime water views.

Brittlebank Park, a 10-acre park on the edge of the Ashley River, is popular with families, fishermen, and attendees of concerts and festivals. The park features trails, paved pathways, a playground, benches, picnic tables, and a fishing pier with a boat dock. The park also has a long narrow stretch of marshlands, which is home to birds and hundreds of native wildflower and plant species. An off-leash area for dogs is available at the north end of the park. The park is open from sunrise to sunset and free parking is available.

Hampton Park – Charleston

Hampton Park is one of the City of Charleston’s largest parks. It boasts the most extensive floral displays of any park in the city. An old rose collection and seasonal displays are planted by the staff and volunteers caring for the park. This neighborhood park has a rich history recently documented through a project of the Charleston Horticultural Society, an audio walking tour called Layers of the Landscape.

This park is home to many activities year round. Weddings, family reunions and many Frisbee games are but a few of the diverse activities seen in this park. The physical fitness trail is a popular spot for The Citadel students who live next door to the park. The park is an arboretum of sorts with many interesting species of trees and shrubs that grow in the Lowcountry. It is one of the few City of Charleston parks with restrooms and on-site parking.

Timmerman Trail – Cayce Riverwalk Phase 4 Access

The Timmerman Trail portion of the Cayce Riverwalk is 3.5 miles of paved hiking trail that runs through the woods in the outskirts of Cayce, near the intersection of I-77 and 12th Street Extension, just across from Dominion Energy headquarters. It begins just west of the 12th Street Extension, then runs under the road and continues eastward. At several points along the way, there are beautiful views of the Congaree Creek and you may see snakes, alligators, and other wildlife.

Timmerman Trail can be accessed from two trailheads. One is off of 12th Street Extension at Otarre Parkway, where there is a small, free parking lot for public use. The other trailhead starts just east of the Cayce Tennis and Fitness Center at the 12,000 Year History Trailhead where street parking and Cayce Tennis and Fitness Center parking are free.

“Memorial Park is a four-acre tract of land in the Congaree Vista between Main Street and the river. The property is bordered by Hampton, Gadsden, Washington and Wayne Streets and is one block south of Finlay Park.
This park was created to serve as a memorial to those who served their country. It currently has monuments honoring the USS Columbia warship and those that served with her during WWII; the China-Burma-India Theater Veterans of WWII; causalities of the Pearl Harbor attack of December 7, 1941, who were from South Carolina; and the State Vietnam War Veterans.
The park was dedicated in November 1986 along with the unveiling of the South Carolina Vietnam Monument. It is the largest monument of its type outside of Washington, D.C., and stands here as a memorial to 980 South Carolinians who died in Vietnam. Plans are ongoing for the future development of the Korean War Memorial as funds are raised.
The park has a water fountain next to the Vietnam Memorial. There are no bathrooms. There is a creek running through the park with a small bridge over it and lots of birds for the kids to chase.”

Riverfront Park North

Riverfront Park opened in 1983 for recreational usage of the land where the original waterworks for the City of Columbia was situated. This was also the site of the world’s first electrically operated textile mill, and the hydroelectric plant, the oldest one in the state, is still operating. 140 acres make up Riverfront Park.
The park, which separates the Historic Columbia Canal and the Congaree River, is approximately 167 acres and is just west of Huger Street. A popular jogging/walking trail runs two and one half miles along the linear park and offers wonderful views of the river. There is also a beautiful brick amphitheater as well as a self-guided walkway by the old parts of the water plant. The park has the capability of hosting smaller concerts.

Riverfront Park also includes an outdoor gym which features seven pieces of equipment including a Lat pull down and vertical press, a rower, a 2-person wheelchair accessible chest press, a 4-person leg press, an elliptical cross trainer, 4-person pendulum and 3-person static combo.

In 2015, the South Carolina Memorial Park Commission unveiled a bronze War Dogs Monument at Memorial Park. The monument is a representation of a Vietnam infantryman and his loyal canine companion. The kneeling solider is about seven feet tall and weighs 1,400 pounds. The statue of the dog is four feet tall and weighs 300 pounds.

This park has a paved trail for walking, skating, or bicycling. There are benches and trees and open fields for playing as well as a small baseball diamond. There is a picnic shelter. The playground is not shaded but has plenty of sand for digging. There is a really cool “rock climbing” feature on the play equipment and a 3-lane squiggly slide. The play equipment is great for a slightly older child as well as a small child. The size of Rosewood Park totals 5.9 acres.

West Columbia Riverwalk Park User Rules

These rules and regulations are established to ensure the fullest use and enjoyment of the West Columbia Riverwalk Park by the citizens of West Columbia and surrounding communities, which is consistent with the protection of persons, public property, and tranquility of the surrounding neighborhoods.

HOURS
General Riverwalk Park hours are from dawn to dusk. Special permitted events have hours as specified by the permit. (For information on the use of the Amphitheater, see Riverwalk Amphitheater Permit Application and Guidelines at www.westcolumbiasc.gov or call (803) 622-8598.)

RULES

• The conduct of the activity proposed will not substantially interrupt the safe and orderly activity of the Riverwalk Park or the safe and orderly movement of pedestrian and vehicular traffic

• The conduct of the activity is not reasonably likely to cause injury to persons or property or to provoke disorderly conduct or create a disturbance

• No person shall play an audio device, such as TV, radio, tape, CD player, etc., at such volume as to disturb persons utilizing the park. No amplified band or group of musicians shall perform without a permit

• No person shall possess, discharge, or set off any fireworks, firearms, weapons, or other explosives without permission from the City Council of West Columbia

• The sale or distribution of alcoholic beverages is PROHIBITED

• No grills or other cooking apparatus are allowed

• No person shall litter – trash receptacles are provided

• No person shall carry on any commercial activity without the permission of the City Council of West Columbia

• No person shall solicit money or contributions within the Riverwalk Park without first having obtained permission from the City Council of West Columbia

• Metal detecting and/or digging in public parks/recreational areas is prohibited

• Vehicles are not permitted to stop or park except in designated parking, loading, or unloading zones.

• Strict adherence to safety standards is required. In case of emergency, contact emergency services by using the Emergency Call boxes located throughout the Park. They can also be reached by calling 911.

Finlay Park

“Finlay Park is an oasis in the heart of downtown. You may have driven past it many times on Assembly St. and never knew it was there. It has been the venue of choice for a number of events from festivals and political rallies to road races and Easter sunrise services. This beautiful 18-acre park has had two lives. It was first dedicated in 1859 as Sidney Park, named in honor of Algernon Sidney Johnson, a Columbia city councilman. Sidney Park had a short life as the Civil War broke out soon after. The park fell into disrepair after the Civil War and served as a site for commercial ventures until the late 1900’s.
In 1990 the park was reopened and has become a beautiful diamond in the downtown area, offering a green oasis in contrast to the glass, asphalt and concrete in the urban environment. It serves as the site for such events as Columbia Kids Day, Mayfest, The Summer Concert Series, Let’s Share, plus many more activities.
In 1992 the park was renamed Finlay Park, in honor of Kirkman Finlay, Mayor of Columbia whose vision to reenergize the area known as the Vista, between Main Street and the river, has been extremely successful. The beautiful site known as Sidney Park was converted to Finlay Park. A statue of Finlay has been placed in the park, showing him sitting on a bench.
Finlay has two playground areas, a man-made lake, waterfalls, a fountain, playing fields, a pergola with swings, and a snack bar that is open in the summer. This is one of the largest handicapped accessible parks in the country. The paved paths are also ideal for strollers. You can easily spend a whole day here with kids of any age.
The park is situated between the streets of Assembly, Taylor, Gadsden and Laurel, and remains one of the treasures of Columbia. It is across the street from the Governor’s Mansion and has one of the most photographed views of downtown.”

Wescott Park

Wescott Park, the Lowcountry’s premier baseball and softball facility, featuring a Ripken Training Facility and batting cages. The park also features 2- playgrounds, 1- enclosed shelter, 1- large outdoor shelter, 2- small outdoor shelters, 1 dog park for small dogs, 1- dog park for large dogs, 1- sand volleyball court and 1- five station adult fitness area. Shelters are available to rent. Wescott Park was meticulously designed and built state of the art for the best experience for players and spectators.

The City’s goal was to create a park capable of holding high level baseball tournaments, while still providing a park setting for the community as a whole. The result is a split park plan that created two distinct areas (sports fields and park) connected by a series of educational nature trails that highlighted the wetlands, native tress and wildlife.

Each of the three ball fields at Wescott Park have been designed differently to scale of Boston Red Sox’s Fenway Park, Atlanta Braves’ Turner Field, and San Francisco Giants’ AT&T Park. Each field is equipped for baseball and softball for athletes 12 years old and under.

A Ripken Training Circle, patented by Cal and Bill Ripken, is incorporated into the facility for instruction and practice of our rising baseball players. The design of the Circle allows for bases and home plates to be substituted for teaching of fundamentals and drills, maximizing the efficiency of instruction. To complete the park as a Ripken Training Facility, batting cages and pitching mounds are incorporated.

Apart from being a sports complex, Wescott Park features passive areas for visitors to enjoy, including a five station adult fitness area, walking trails through the park’s wetlands, and a one enclosed shelter and three air shelters for a variety of community and family events.

• The conduct of the activity proposed will not substantially interrupt the safe and orderly activity of the Riverwalk Park or the safe and orderly movement of pedestrian and vehicular traffic

• The conduct of the activity is not reasonably likely to cause injury to persons or property or to provoke disorderly conduct or create a disturbance

• No person shall possess, discharge, or set off any fireworks, firearms, weapons, or other explosives without permission from the City Council of West Columbia

• The sale or distribution of alcoholic beverages is PROHIBITED

• No grills or other cooking apparatus are allowed

• No person shall litter – trash receptacles are provided

• No person shall carry on any commercial activity without the permission of the City Council of West Columbia

• No person shall solicit money or contributions within the Riverwalk Park without first having obtained permission from the City Council of West Columbia

• Metal detecting and/or digging in public parks/recreational areas is prohibited

• Vehicles are not permitted to stop or park except in designated parking, loading, or unloading zones.

Hampton Park is located in the Brandon Acres and Cedar Terrace communities located off Garners Ferry Road and West of Interstate I-77. The park has a pond, two tennis courts, youth baseball field, full size basketball court and a spray pool. The facility has a sun porch for a relaxing outdoor experience with lots of shade.The facility is heavily used to house our summer camp and after school programs.

The Kelly Mill Sports Complex is a new 35 acre sports complex to include 4 baseball fields, a multipurpose field, one central two-story concessions building with press boxes and restrooms, a walking trail (approximately ½ mile), irrigation, a custom playground system with rubberized fall surface, a maintenance building, lighted paved parking, and a batting warm-up area with cages.

Seven Oaks is one of the Midlands’ premier baseball venues. The park’s six natural-turf baseball diamonds include four youth, one intermediate and one regulation-sized in addition to three multi-use fields.
