Ashley River Park is located near the beautiful scenic side of the Ashley River off of Bacon’s Bridge Road. The site features many amenities and recreation activities for visitors of all ages. The park is open from dawn to dusk daily. Ashley River Park features playgrounds, two picnic shelters, a splash pad, a fishing pond, riverside walking trail, kayak launch, event lawn, and dog parks for both small and large dogs. There is also an event pavilion on site available for full-day rentals. We are currently working on constructing an adventure course and rock climbing wall at this location

This park has a paved trail for walking, skating, or bicycling. There are benches and trees and open fields for playing as well as a small baseball diamond. There is a picnic shelter. The playground is not shaded but has plenty of sand for digging. There is a really cool “rock climbing” feature on the play equipment and a 3-lane squiggly slide. The play equipment is great for a slightly older child as well as a small child. The size of Rosewood Park totals 5.9 acres.

West Columbia Riverwalk Park User Rules

These rules and regulations are established to ensure the fullest use and enjoyment of the West Columbia Riverwalk Park by the citizens of West Columbia and surrounding communities, which is consistent with the protection of persons, public property, and tranquility of the surrounding neighborhoods.

HOURS
General Riverwalk Park hours are from dawn to dusk. Special permitted events have hours as specified by the permit. (For information on the use of the Amphitheater, see Riverwalk Amphitheater Permit Application and Guidelines at www.westcolumbiasc.gov or call (803) 622-8598.)

RULES

• The conduct of the activity proposed will not substantially interrupt the safe and orderly activity of the Riverwalk Park or the safe and orderly movement of pedestrian and vehicular traffic

• The conduct of the activity is not reasonably likely to cause injury to persons or property or to provoke disorderly conduct or create a disturbance

• No person shall play an audio device, such as TV, radio, tape, CD player, etc., at such volume as to disturb persons utilizing the park. No amplified band or group of musicians shall perform without a permit

• No person shall possess, discharge, or set off any fireworks, firearms, weapons, or other explosives without permission from the City Council of West Columbia

• The sale or distribution of alcoholic beverages is PROHIBITED

• No grills or other cooking apparatus are allowed

• No person shall litter – trash receptacles are provided

• No person shall carry on any commercial activity without the permission of the City Council of West Columbia

• No person shall solicit money or contributions within the Riverwalk Park without first having obtained permission from the City Council of West Columbia

• Metal detecting and/or digging in public parks/recreational areas is prohibited

• Vehicles are not permitted to stop or park except in designated parking, loading, or unloading zones.

• Strict adherence to safety standards is required. In case of emergency, contact emergency services by using the Emergency Call boxes located throughout the Park. They can also be reached by calling 911.

Finlay Park

“Finlay Park is an oasis in the heart of downtown. You may have driven past it many times on Assembly St. and never knew it was there. It has been the venue of choice for a number of events from festivals and political rallies to road races and Easter sunrise services. This beautiful 18-acre park has had two lives. It was first dedicated in 1859 as Sidney Park, named in honor of Algernon Sidney Johnson, a Columbia city councilman. Sidney Park had a short life as the Civil War broke out soon after. The park fell into disrepair after the Civil War and served as a site for commercial ventures until the late 1900’s.
In 1990 the park was reopened and has become a beautiful diamond in the downtown area, offering a green oasis in contrast to the glass, asphalt and concrete in the urban environment. It serves as the site for such events as Columbia Kids Day, Mayfest, The Summer Concert Series, Let’s Share, plus many more activities.
In 1992 the park was renamed Finlay Park, in honor of Kirkman Finlay, Mayor of Columbia whose vision to reenergize the area known as the Vista, between Main Street and the river, has been extremely successful. The beautiful site known as Sidney Park was converted to Finlay Park. A statue of Finlay has been placed in the park, showing him sitting on a bench.
Finlay has two playground areas, a man-made lake, waterfalls, a fountain, playing fields, a pergola with swings, and a snack bar that is open in the summer. This is one of the largest handicapped accessible parks in the country. The paved paths are also ideal for strollers. You can easily spend a whole day here with kids of any age.
The park is situated between the streets of Assembly, Taylor, Gadsden and Laurel, and remains one of the treasures of Columbia. It is across the street from the Governor’s Mansion and has one of the most photographed views of downtown.”

Wescott Park

Wescott Park, the Lowcountry’s premier baseball and softball facility, featuring a Ripken Training Facility and batting cages. The park also features 2- playgrounds, 1- enclosed shelter, 1- large outdoor shelter, 2- small outdoor shelters, 1 dog park for small dogs, 1- dog park for large dogs, 1- sand volleyball court and 1- five station adult fitness area. Shelters are available to rent. Wescott Park was meticulously designed and built state of the art for the best experience for players and spectators.

The City’s goal was to create a park capable of holding high level baseball tournaments, while still providing a park setting for the community as a whole. The result is a split park plan that created two distinct areas (sports fields and park) connected by a series of educational nature trails that highlighted the wetlands, native tress and wildlife.

Each of the three ball fields at Wescott Park have been designed differently to scale of Boston Red Sox’s Fenway Park, Atlanta Braves’ Turner Field, and San Francisco Giants’ AT&T Park. Each field is equipped for baseball and softball for athletes 12 years old and under.

A Ripken Training Circle, patented by Cal and Bill Ripken, is incorporated into the facility for instruction and practice of our rising baseball players. The design of the Circle allows for bases and home plates to be substituted for teaching of fundamentals and drills, maximizing the efficiency of instruction. To complete the park as a Ripken Training Facility, batting cages and pitching mounds are incorporated.

Apart from being a sports complex, Wescott Park features passive areas for visitors to enjoy, including a five station adult fitness area, walking trails through the park’s wetlands, and a one enclosed shelter and three air shelters for a variety of community and family events.

All of the fields have lights and Meadowlake Park is the only recreation center that has a full walking track with lights. The city’s newest and largest public outdoor tennis facility is South East Park and Tennis Center. The courts are shaded by thousands of trees that blanket the 62-acre park. Also featured are a picnic shelter with restrooms, additional walking trails, a playfield and 14 additional tennis courts.

The park is located approximately two miles east of I-77. Take Garners Ferry Road east past Wal-Mart and turn left at the first flashing traffic signal at Hazelwood. The park will be on the left hand side about a block away.

Woodland Park has tennis courts, picnic tables, a baseball diamond and a playground as well as a community center.
The playground has been renovated recently- the play equipment is in excellent condition. This is a very neat play structure with lots of different climbing activities. The area is not shaded but the surrounding grassy area has plenty of shade, including the swings which are separate from the rest of the play structure.
Water and restrooms are available in the community center as well as a gymnasium. The community center has computers with internet access.

Ridgewood Community Center, located between Dartmouth Avenue and Woodbrier Street, is a new community center that features a kitchen, two meeting rooms, and restrooms. Outside, there is a picnic shelter, a playground, security lighting, outdoor restrooms, and a walking trail, approximately a quarter of a mile in length.

The walking trail, made of paved, recycled, rubberized material, allows for ADA accessibility and full participation of all our patrons. There are also four exercise stations placed strategically along the trail to allow for a full-body workout of 10 different, low-impact exercises. Enjoy the decorative lighting around the walking trail and relax on one of the four park benches located under the shade trees. Enjoy lunch at the picnic shelter and let the children play in the enclosed playground as you watch their every move while walking along the trail.

This 12-acre garden located just blocks from historic downtown Summerville features a riot of seasonal colors, a gazebo, paved pathways, sculpture and lots of shade. Its winding paths invite a leisurely stroll. In the spring, the azaleas and camellias provide a spectacular view or admire the year-round beauty of our reflection ponds and bronze sculptures. Azalea Park is the host to several special events, including Summerville YMCA’s Flowertown Festival and Sculpture in the Sculpture in the South. For tennis lovers, the park also has two tennis courts available for recreational play. “Granby Park, near the historic Granby, Whaley and Olympia Mill Villages, opened in 1998. It is the southernmost segment of the Three Rivers Greenway. This 12-mile river park connects the cities of Columbia, West Columbia, and Cayce as well as Richland and Lexington Counties and provides public access to the Congaree, Saluda and Broad Rivers. Granby Park has wonderful views of the river from deeply shaded paths.
Granby Park offers adventure-seekers and nature-lovers accessible river-related recreation and provides significant green infrastructure that enhances private housing options in the downtown area. A dog friendly park with bridges, boardwalks, overlooks, and a half mile of lighted paved paths that accommodate all levels of physical access, including baby strollers and wheelchairs. Granby Park offers one half mile of off path trails for mountain bikes and runners.
Starting from the park building, you can walk either direction on this easy walking paved trail that passes through a very thick and shady wooded area. Helpful signs identify the various trees and other plants (watch out for the ones labeled “Poison Ivy”), and overlooks at either end provide a place to view the Congaree River. Near the south end, you will pass over what was once part of the old Columbia Canal. The trail is lit for evening walks. Bathroom facilities are available at the parking area in the replica saltbox Mill House that echoes the neighborhood architecture from the 1820’s.”

Olympia Park

This 4.98 acre neighborhood park is located at Olympia Avenue down from Divine Truth Ministries by the Congaree River. This facility includes two picnic tables, a multi-purpose playground, nice trail good for jogging/walking, and a dedication bench in loving memory of Constance Arielle Baker who attended USC in 2005.

Guignard Park

Guignard Park is a lovely scenic park on Axtell Drive. There is a 1/3 mile paved loop through the lightly wooded area as well as a playground and picnic space.

Saluda Riverwalk

The Saluda Riverwalk is peaceful trail along the Saluda River, The walking trail is 7.3 miles of paved terrain with many great spots for photography and fishing.

The park also has entrance spots for kayaks and tubes. Dogs must be on a leash.
